Terms and conditions for advertisers
Who these terms are for
These terms apply to anyone who books an ad in Boarding School ("you"). By ticking the box when you book, you accept the version of these terms shown at the top of this page. We keep the version you accepted, and when, with your booking.
Placements and rotation
Ads appear in the game world: billboards, wall posters, the club screens, a short jingle between songs in the club, and banners under the sports scoreboards.
Placements are shared. A billboard holds up to five ads, a poster up to three, and the ads take turns every few seconds, the same for every player at the same moment. Booking a spot never gives you a placement to yourself.
Players see an ad only when they are near it, and some players never visit a placement. We do not promise any number of views.
Prices and payment
Prices are in naira, set by us per placement and length, and shown before you pay. The price you pay is the one our server shows at checkout; we may change prices for future bookings at any time.
When you start a checkout we hold a rotation spot for you for 15 minutes. If you do not finish paying in that time, the spot is released.
Going live
Your ad goes live as soon as your payment is confirmed, if a rotation spot is free for your dates. If the spot filled while you were paying, we refund you in full straight away.
Sometimes we may review an ad before it goes live (for example a new advertiser, or an ad our checks flag). It runs for the full time you paid for from when it is approved.
What we never run
These ads are always rejected or removed:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco and vaping
- Sexual or adult content
- Weapons
- Scams and get-rich-quick schemes
- Political ads
- Anything aimed at or exploiting minors
Betting and gaming ads
Betting and gaming ads are allowed only from operators licensed in Nigeria. When you book, you must give the licensing body (such as the National Lottery Regulatory Commission or a state lottery or gaming board) and your licence number, and they must be true and current.
Every betting ad shows "18+ · Play responsibly". An ad without a valid licence will be removed.
What you promise
You own or have permission to use everything in your ad, the ad and the link are honest and lawful in Nigeria, and the description you give us says truly what the ad is about.
Takedowns and refunds
If your ad breaks these rules it will be removed, and the money paid may not be refunded.
If we remove an ad because it breaks these rules, we may keep the money you paid. If we remove an ad for our own reasons (for example we retire a placement or something breaks on our side), we refund the unused part of your booking, worked out by the time left.
We tell you by email when we remove an ad, and why. Removed ads stay on your dashboard with the reason.
Stats
Views and clicks on your dashboard are estimates. Views are counted from players near your ad and in front of it, sampled and limited to stop abuse, so they are a guide, not an audit.
Our liability
We run ads on a best-effort basis. The game can be unavailable or a placement out of view at times. Our total liability for any booking is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under Nigerian law that cannot be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version applies to bookings made after it is published; bookings already made keep the version accepted with them.
